    All,

We are having problems at short intervals changing big end bearings on an W18 V 46 engine.
We found after 12K that there where deep stripes on the bearings and abnormal wear. Anybody have had the same issue.

    Hello SPCS,

Can you let me know the application for the W46 engine you are using? What type of fuel?  Where are you located? Big end bearing problems are an issue with not only the W46 engines but with many, issue is that this engine is so big and damages are so costly that the bearing problem is exponentially used to create an uproar on faulty bearings or defects on crank shafts, added protections needed, new improved parts etc, while this might be only an operational problem.  Please feel free to contact me if you need more support on this subject.

    Dear Benjamin,

    Thank you for you’re reply.
I’m stated in South America (Surinam).
We are using heavy fuel oil with a sulphur of 0.7%.
Do you have more information about this problem.

    Good day SPCS-

Are the stripes shiny or black? in the loaded area or on one edge or both edges of the bearing? Condition of crankpin reflects similar imprint from the bearing shell surface? is the pin standard or undersized?

if you have any pictures of the bearing shell, could you email these? shipworx@shipworx.net
