InactiveWas wondering if anyone has had any problem with thermocouples for exhaust gas. We installed all 36 new now they are failing open no resistance at all with no warning ?

InactiveWe have not had a real problem with these. Have lost a few over the years but nothing like you are experiencing. Were they all from the same batch? Like it is a production issue?

InactiveHi Allen, this is David Bonner at Hug engineering. You are welcome to give me a call. I would love to hear what the issues are and see if we can help support the resolution. Once we solve the issue. I can post it on the website here. My phone is 470-261-4052.

InactiveAllen,
A couple of questions;
What engine version? W18V34SG?
What Engine control System?
Which exhaust thermocouple? ie. TE5011A Exhaust temp after cylinder
Minor clarification a thermocouple should produce a millivolt signal not sure that the resistance measurement would give any meaningful information. Have you tested the thermocouple utilizing a thermocouple meter to see if the issue is either the thermocouple or the engine controls? On the W20V34SG machines these are a type K thermocouple. I have seen some issues with WECS-8000 CCMs from time to time, typically all the TCs on the CCM go bad at once and normally it is a CCM ready to fail. Thankfully we have replaced very few engine cylinder exhaust TCs to date.

InactiveChris,
(Kennett MO Plant CLGW).
Glad to assist. Even though this is not Hug product, it is a situation I am aware of.
Based on our conversation, the new K-type 0-600C thermal couples were being over-temped or long term high temp exposure due to the waist gate timing. This is the likely issue…. basically cooking the TC’s. It appears the issue was resolved once programming was modified.
Thank you for sharing your experiences.
David,
